Event Info

Sustainable Mobility for All was featured at the World Transport Convention 2018 (WTC), which brought together over 6,000 participants last month in Beijing—including high-level government officials, CEOs of companies, heads of international organizations, and academics. Specifically, SuM4All participated in the Belt and Road Initiative Transport Alliance Symposium and the Smart Urban Transport and Mobility Forum organized under the WTC umbrella.

This year’s theme at WTC, “Better Transport, Better World” served as a platform for transport professionals from around the world to engage on the future of transport. The conference was multi-faceted consisting of keynotes from high-level government officials, policy discussions, academic presentations and exhibitions showcasing the latest transport related technologies. Transport ministers from Africa and Europe presented their transport infrastructure plans and how they could contribute to the Belt & Road initiative, and to a better world. WTC provided the platform for SuM4All to engage with the broadest audience ever reached so far, including stakeholders from the Asian and African regions.

China’s Transport Minister Hon. Xiaopeng Li opened the 2018 World Transport Convention by highlighting how transport, which used to be a huge challenge for the country, has now became a key part of its development strategy. Today, China's transport network spans a total of 5 million kilometers, boasting some 136,000 km of highways, 98% connectivity in rural areas, and 66% of the world's high-speed railway mileage. The next frontier? Promoting sustainability across the sector.
