Event Info

The 5th Consortium Meeting of the Sustainable Mobility for All initiative was held on May 22nd, 2018 in Leipzig, Germany. 50 organizations from across the transport sector, ranging from multilateral development banks and UN organizations to the private sector and civil society participated in the meeting.

Secretary General of the International Transport Forum at the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Young Tae Kim delivered the opening remarks. He complimented the various partnerships that have evolved and the consortium’s collective efforts for SuM4All. Following Dr. Kim’s remarks, the chair of the meeting, José Luis Irigoyen, the Senior Director of the Global Practice for Transport and Digital Development at the World Bank, announced that the SuM4All membership had grown considerably since its last consortium meeting in January, 2018. Since then 10 new organizations had joined the initiative.

The primary focus of the meeting was the discussion of the first draft of the SuM4All Global Roadmap of Action (GRA) to achieve sustainable mobility and the relevant engagement strategy with decision makers. On the subject of the GRA, the six working groups that had been assigned earlier to work on developing the report, presented their respective drafts to the consortium for their feedback. The consortium agreed on the importance of developing policies based on sound data and the need for policies to include both the cost of implementation and tradeoffs.

The consortium especially emphasized the importance of engaging countries to identify practical actions to transform the mobility sector. The logistics pertaining to such a consultation strategy were extensively discussed. A possible consultation strategy on the GRA will begin in September 2018.
