SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY FOR ALL

Our Workstreams

In 2022, SuM4All will continue to expand its influencing role in the transport sector by providing detailed guidance on “HOW to” implement policies included in the Catalogue of Policy Measures (CPM) and test those recommendations through pilot projects.  Members of the partnership will have the opportunity to enroll in at least one of the six workstreams and contribute time, knowledge and expertise towards the success of the group(s) they selected.  The first meeting of these groups will take place at the 12th Consortium Meeting on February 15, 2022. If you are interested, please express your interest through this form.  This year's workstream include:

  • E-mobility -  Working Group Leads: Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) and International Association of Public Transport (UITP) -  Building on the discussion paper,  “Sustainable Electric Mobility: Building Blocks and Policy Recommendations”, pilot relevant policy recommendations in two cities: Lviv, Ukranine and Cuenca, Ecuador. Download ToR
  • Energy-mobility Nexus - Working Group Leads: Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) and High Volume Transport Programme (HVT) - A pilot project in Kenya using the “Digital Toolkit for Energy and Mobility”. Download ToR
  • Safety - Working Group Leads: International Road Federation (IRF) and Michelin - Deep dive on safety, with the development of actionable policy guidelines to shape national-level regulations on safety based on the Global Roadmap of Action toward Sustainable Mobility. Download ToR
  • Public Transport - Working Group Leads: World Resources Institute(WRI) and World Bank (WB) - Deep dive on urban access, with the development of a set of shared principles for reimaging public transport systems in post COVID era. Download ToR
  • Freight and Logistics - Working Group Leads: United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and World Bank (WB) - Comprehensive global assessment of the determinants of freight costs through a compilation of cost data and indicators, and ways to reduce those costs. Download ToR
  • Gender – Working Group Lead: FIA Foundation - Deep dive on gender issue, developing a network of women’s professionals in transport Download ToR

Last year's workstreams released four technical papers in the GRA in Action series, that deep dive into policies and global experience available on some of the most innovative topics in transport.

  • Sustainable Mobility: Policy Making for Data Sharing: The paper offers a global policy framework and practical guidance for policymaking on data sharing. Recognizing the hyperlocal context of mobility needs and policies, the nascent state of the data-sharing market, and limited evidence from regulatory practices, we offer multiple case studies from across the globe to document emerging good practices and policy suggestions.
  • Sustainable Electric Mobility: Building Blocks and Policy Recommendations: The report focuses on policy enablers to e-powered mobility solutions. The report analyzes the main barriers to electric mobility development, including two and three-wheelers; identifies seven essential building blocks for successful public policies in the field of electric mobility; and provides policy recommendations for three target audiences: international development public policy community, the national public policy community, and local public policy community. The report is published in English and Spanish language.
  • Digital Toolkit for Energy and Mobility: The toolkit presents a discourse on some of the best practices to achieve energy efficiency in transport through the lens of three policies: promote public discussions on new mobility solutions e.g., autonomous vehicles, e-mobility, and on-demand transportation; expand public transport infrastructure, and plan for integrated multimodal transport networks. The toolkit aims at bridging the gap between the transport and energy sectors when seeking to achieve universal, efficient, safe, and green mobility while developing sustainable, and energy-efficient transport projects.
  • Electromobility in the Global South: An Equitable Transition toward Road Passenger Transport Decarbonization: The paper raised questions and issues for dialogue focused on the role of electromobility as a solution to decarbonize the transport sector from the unique perspective of countries in the Global South. The paper identifies six considerations to evaluate the readiness of a country to invest into e-mobility solutions; it also points out the urgency need of addressing the emerging Green Divide between high-income countries and the least developed countries―in terms of both responsibility for climate change, and the response to it.
