SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY FOR ALL

New SuM4All Steering Committee Elected

In the past two years, SUM4ll has accomplished impactful advances under the guidance of the Steering Committee including our most ambitious venture—tackling the “how to” factors to achieve sustainable mobility and developing the Global Roadmap of Action toward Sustainable Mobility (GRA).

The governance of our initiative does, however, require a renewal after two years. As the two-year term of the initial SuM4All Steering Committee comes to an end, we are pleased to announce the new members of our new Steering Committee effective as of July 1, 2020:

  • To represent civil society, the Partnership on Sustainable, Low-Carbon Transport (SLOCAT) and the Research for Community Access Partnership (ReCAP) have been elected.
  • Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) will keep their seats as bilateral partners, while DFID is seeking final approval of funding to support the initiative.
  • To ensure relevance to the thematic priorities of SuM4All as we seek to make the recommendations of the GRA actionable, our working group leads will also have a seat in the steering Committee. These include Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the FIA Foundation, and Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL).
  • As founder and Secretariat of the partnership, the World Bank will continue to occupy one of the MDB seats, while the other will be transferred from CAF to the Islamic Development Bank.
  • Other seats will be up for election in December, including the two seats for the private sector/business associations (currently occupied by Michelin and FIA), and one seat for the UN/Intergovernmental (currently United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)).

We would like to thank the outgoing members of the Steering Committee - CAF – Development Bank of Latin America, International Road Federation (IRF), International Association of Public Transport (UITP), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Resources Institute (WRI) - for their diligence, motivation as well as dedication which has been a source of inspiration for everyone at SuM4All, and for that we will always be thankful.

The new Steering Committee will continue to provide strategic oversight, advise and make decisions on all aspects of the initiative; it will be the primary advocate for the vision and products of the initiative. It will also assist the Secretariat in fundraising efforts to support the initiative.
